Turf laying terms
When we lay a lawn for you, your written quote and these terms together are our agreement. It covers preparing the ground, supplying and laying the turf, and tidying up afterwards.

How we quote
Each quote is based on the measurements, photos and details you give us, plus a visit to the garden if we make one. A quote stays open for the time printed on it; if none is printed, that's 7 days.
The work covered is whatever your quote lists, which is normally preparing the ground, supplying and laying the turf, and clearing the waste. Builders' rubble is priced on its own. Every price includes VAT.
Should the garden, the access, the area or the soil prove not to match the information we had or what was reasonably visible, we'll talk you through the change and agree any new price before carrying out extra work.
Deposit and balance
Your date is only held once you've accepted the quote and paid a £100 deposit, which is then taken off the final bill.
Pay the rest on the day the work starts, by card or bank transfer. Until it's paid for, the turf and materials belong to us.
Cancelling within 14 days
As you'll accept your quote online, over the phone or somewhere other than our premises, you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of accepting. Email us to do so.
If you've asked us to begin inside those 14 days and you cancel before we start, you'll cover the turf, materials and committed costs for your job that we can't get back. If work on site has already begun, the whole price is payable.
You can use this wording if it helps: "To Washington Turf, Newcastle upon Tyne, info@washingtonturf.co.uk: I/We give notice that I/We cancel my/our contract for the following service: [service], accepted on [date]. Name, address, date."
Cancelling or moving later
Cancel after the 14 days and the deposit stays with us towards our costs. Move to another date instead and the deposit simply transfers. Any turf ordered or harvested for your job has to be paid for.
Dates, weather and getting in
Dates are booked in good faith. Weather, soil conditions, supply, or a previous job taking longer can shift them, in which case we'll keep you posted and offer the closest workable date. Some jobs need more than one day.
We need safe, clear access to the lawn, a place to park and unload, and water on site. Let us know about gates, tracks, animals or weight limits.
Getting the garden ready
Please move furniture and anything else out of the way, and keep pets clear of the work.
Let us know about, and mark, any buried pipes, cables, drains, septic tanks or watering systems. We aren't responsible for damage to things we weren't told about and couldn't reasonably have seen, and anyone else's work is their own responsibility.
About the turf
As a natural crop, turf changes in colour and texture through the year. If the variety we planned isn't available, we may lay a similar one of comparable quality.
After we've gone
A new lawn needs plenty of water, often, and we'll leave you guidance on looking after it. Watering, weather, soil and use all affect how it settles, and those are out of our hands once it's down, so we can't promise it will take.
If anything looks wrong, send us photos as early as you can and we'll do what we reasonably can.
Pictures of the job
We may take before and after photos or video of the lawn for our records and our marketing. We aim at the lawn, not at people or your home. Prefer them kept out of our marketing? Tell us before we begin.
Responsibility
If you suffer loss that's a foreseeable consequence of us breaching these terms or not working with reasonable care and skill, we're responsible for it. Loss that couldn't have been foreseen, and business losses, aren't covered.
These terms don't limit our liability where the law says they can't, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud, and they don't affect your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Your information and the law
Our privacy notice explains how we use your details. These terms may be updated; whichever version came with your quote, or was on this website when you booked, applies. English and Welsh law applies.
